DTLA Target shooting: Suspect charged with attempted murder

LOS ANGELES - Charges have been filed against the man accused of shooting two people during an attempted robbery outside a Target store in downtown LA.

Jabril Metoyer, 25, has been charged with three counts of attempted murder, four counts of robbery, and one count of attempted robbery. The charges include various allegations of personal discharge of a firearm, use of a firearm and great bodily injury.

He is being held in lieu of $4.1 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in downtown Los Angeles.

If convicted as charged, he faces life in state prison.

On Monday, Dec. 30 around 9 p.m., LAPD officers were called to the Figat7th shopping center following reports of shots fired. 

Authorities say Metoyer tried stuffing a suitcase with about $1,500 worth of merchandise and walking out, but was confronted by security and started shooting.

Two security guards were shot and rushed to the hospital. 

Metoyer was arrested the next day following an hours-long standoff at an apartment building in downtown LA. 

According to DA Nathan Hochman, Metoyer was involved in another shooting, also at the same shopping plaza, just three days earlier. In that incident, Hochman said Metoyer approached an individual at an ATM and demanded money. The man refused, so Metoyer pulled out a gun and opened fire. The man's condition is not known.
