Fairfax District restaurant prepping for dine-in customers following Gov. Newsom's guidelines

LOS ANGELES - Local restaurants are preparing for the day they can reopen for dine-in after Governor Newsom laid out guidelines on Tuesday afternoon that will have to be met to do so.

One restaurant owner tells FOX 11 even though LA County hasn't lifted restrictions yet. He's now using the governor's guidelines to prepare for whenever that day comes.

For the last decade, Michael Simhai been the owner of Della Terra in LA's Fairfax District and he's finally seeing light on the horizon for reopening.

"We are making public the guidelines for a number of other industries in this staff including the restaurant industry, guidelines for reopening in-room dining so to speak or dine-in," Simhai said.

Those guidelines include things Simhai has already been doing to prepare. He's been making modifications during the lockdown. The bathrooms will all be touchless meaning no contact with the sink or soap.

He's redoing his front doors to avoid touching Simhai will have only 25% capacity with spaced out tables.

"I’ve got a special paper menu that you can wipe with a sanitizer that’s made out of plastic," he said.

He even has this UV light sanitizer for his pens and an infrared thermometer to use on staff and customers whenever LA County gives the green light to reopen.

This may be the new normal for some time to come and Simhai is ready to adapt.

Not just for his livelihood, but for those he serves as well.

Even though the governor released these guidelines today dine-in is still restricted for now, here in LA County.

That's expected to change in the next phase of reopening, but it's unclear exactly when that will be.
