Fire breaks out in Cleveland National Forest near Corona
CORONA, Calif. - A wildfire erupted Thursday on a mountainside in the Cleveland National Forest just south of Corona.
The "Skyline Fire'' was reported about 4:40 p.m. along the Skyline Trail, less than a mile west of Foothill Parkway, well inside the forest, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
It has so far burned 51 acres and is 40% contained as of 9 p.m. Thursday.
According to the Corona Fire Department, the following streets have been evacuated Clearing Circle, Meandering Lane, Burrero Way, Corbett Street and Overland Lane.
Corona High School, located at 1150 W. 10th St., is serving as an evacuation center.
The agency said a full-scale deployment was ordered, with crews from the county, Corona, the U.S. Forest Service and the Orange County Fire Authority converging on the location.
The fire was moving upslope and eastward in heavy vegetation, according to reports from the scene.
No structures were immediately threatened.
Four Cal Fire air tankers and two water-dropping helicopters were summoned to begin establishing tentative containment lines in the waning hours of daylight.
The fire was expected to burn through the night because of the inaccessibility of the terrain.
There is no immediate word on how the fire started.
