As we inch closer to Monday's solar eclipse, some scientists are suggesting that those who have purchased eclipse glasses be careful to make sure they're truly safe.
Dr. Bruce Betts with The Planetary Society in Pasadena says there have been cases of unscrupulous people counterfeiting glasses...even fraudulently placing ISO labels on them. Those labels, when real, are to certify the product is what it says it is.
Betts says if you got your glasses from a reputable source...you should be fine.
Another point, when you look through eclipse glasses they should be so dark you can't see anything except a very bright light or if outside, the sun appearing as an orange disk. If you can see through your glasses he says they may not be safe to use.
We'll have much more on a Special Eclipse Edition of FOX 11 News IN DEPTH Sunday morning at 9:00am.
