For this 26th episode of FOX 11 News IN DEPTH, we are all about the upcoming solar eclipse. We go to NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and talk with scientists and astronomers.
We visit with a former space shuttle astronaut and, in studio, are joined by three great guests from a trio of our preeminent astronomical institutions - JPL, The Planetary Society and Griffith Observatory. From what to expect and what does it all mean... we are on it!
SEGMENT ONE: We meet Dr. Bruce Betts and Collin O'Mara-Green. Betts is the Director of Science and Technology at the Planetary Society in Pasadena. O'Mara-Green is a staff astronomer at Griffith Observatory. They discuss the anticipated solar eclipse.
SEGMENT TWO: General Larry James is second in command (Deputy Director) at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He talks about the final days of the Cassini Mission, the upcoming Mars 2020 Project and how the eclipse is exciting scientists at JPL.
SEGMENT THREE: All three gentlemen join us to answer viewer questions previously submitted on social media. They also discuss concerns over fake eclipse glasses that people may have gotten.
SEGMENT FOUR: A final word from our experts that include thoughts about being safe and enjoying this heavenly spectacular.
