Gov. Newsom asks for Californians to 'minimize mixing' in order to get students back to school
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday asked Californians to minimize their mixing and to wear masks to reduce the spread of coronavirus.
“The fewer people you mix with, the significant reduction of others that contract the disease,” he said.
On Saturday, California reported its fourth-highest daily total of newly confirmed coronavirus cases, with more than 9,000 cases.

Over a 7-day period, the state’s positivity rate has decreased from 7.7% to 7.2%.
However, intensive care unit admissions for COVID-19 patients is increasing with a 12% increase in admissions over the last 14 days, Newsom said.
Newsom also provided an update on the state’s monitoring list and said 33 of California’s 58 counties are now on the list, which is up from 30 counties that were on the list during his briefing last Monday.

The governor also said California averaged 91 deaths over a 7-day period. Newsom said that is a number he does not take lightly, sharing his condolences with families who have lost as a result of the virus.
