Hate crime investigation: Gay couple attacked inside fast food restaurant
SOUTH LOS ANGELES, Calif. (FOX 11) - Sabrina Hooks, from Inglewood by way of Moreno Valley has been ''out'' since High School and never really has had any major problems. Until the Saturday night before Halloween.
She says she and her girlfriend were at a Jack in the Box restaurant at Imperial Highway and Figueroa street when a group of men and women started harassing and taunting them.
They insulted Sabrina's girlfriend in a particularly vulgar way. That's when things got physical, starting with pushing and shoving and then a physical fight that ended up with Sabrina hospitalized overnight...a black eye, a missing front tooth, and the LAPD investigating.
So far, no arrests and the LAPD won't say anything other than that it's ''an ongoing investigation.'' The two women gave an excellent description of their attackers and of course, there is security camera video from inside and possibly outside the fast food restaurant.
Sabrina said ''It was like a horror movie, except I wasn't watching it...I was in it. It's not even about my sexuality, it's about human decency.''
Her girlfriend was more matter of fact, "I wish we lived in a world where things weren't like this.''
