Hawthorne liquor store owner stabbed; 2 on the run

Two males who stabbed an employee during a robbery at Hawthorne's famed Bluebird Liquor were at large Saturday.

Hawthorne Police Department officers responded around 7:30 p.m. Friday to a call of a shooting at the store at 13746 Hawthorne Blvd., near Hawthorne Boulevard, the Daily Breeze reported. While en route, officers were informed that there was no shooting, but an employee had been stabbed.

Arriving officers learned that an employee had confronted two people who were attempting to flee with items stolen from the store, according to the Daily Breeze.

The employee was stabbed twice with a knife during the confrontation before the thieves fled. The two males headed northbound on Hawthorne Boulevard before turning eastbound on 137th Street out of sight, the newspaper reported.

Authorities told the Daily Breeze the employee sustained non-life- threatening injuries.

Anyone with information on the stabbing was urged to call the Hawthorne Police Department's Detective Bureau at 310-349-2820.

The store has gained notoriety for selling multiple lottery tickets with large jackpots.
