Heroes Among Us: East Side Riders Bike Club serves up free pancake breakfast meals in Watts
LOS ANGELES - Every weekday morning, members of the East Side Riders Bike Club serve up hundreds of free pancake breakfast meals to the Watts community.
The organization has been feeding hot meals to those in need on the corner of 103rd Street and Compton Avenue for over a month amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Volunteers with the East Side Riders Bike Club started providing the meals out of pocket, but can now continue their efforts with donations from friends.
The volunteer organization’s mission is “to improve Watts through community service, charity work, and bike programs aimed at keeping local youth out of gang activity,” according to its website.
Many of the members grew up in Watts and want to give back to the community where they were born and raised.
The organization has been serving 700 pancake meals a day.
