Heroes Among Us: United Sikh Mission distributes thousands of meals daily in Riverside County

The United Sikh Mission is currently running one of the largest food relief operations in Riverside County.

It started serving 175 daily meals on March 20. Now, the group distributes about 5,000 hot meals a day to people in need, senior centers, and healthcare workers.

Overall, the group has handed out more than 75,000 meals since the pandemic struck.

It's a community effort. The Spice Jar in Fontana is allowing them to use their kitchen to prepare meals.

Every Saturday and Sunday, the mission has a drive-thru at its temple to hand out meals, groceries, masks, and even toys.  The lines have been several miles long every weekend.

“Hunger has no days off. Hence, we need to serve every day,” said Gurpreet Singh from the United Sikh Mission.
