Cadillac driver breaks 100 mph in 2-county police chase across LA, San Bernardino

A shooting suspect was shot and killed by police officers in South Los Angeles Saturday and three people were detained following a police chase in which a Cadillac driver broke 100 mph multiple times across Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.

The shooting occurred at about 10:25 p.m. Saturday on 66th Street, west of Flower Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

A vice sergeant from the department's 77th Street station was on duty in plain clothes and in an unmarked police vehicle when the shooting occurred, according to police.

A suspect was struck by gunfire and rushed to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

A vehicle pursuit occurred after the shooting, police said. Over the course of the chase, the suspect passed through San Gabriel Valley neighborhoods, in addition to Ontario before SkyFOX lost hold of the suspect.

A police officer was injured when his vehicle crashed near the northbound 110 Freeway at the 51st Street exit earlier in the chase. The officer was hospitalized in stable condition, officials said.

Three people inside the suspect vehicle were eventually detained, police said.

No further details on the person who died or those who were detained were immediately released.
