Holiday Travel: Record numbers are projected to close out 2024
LOS ANGELES - More than 119 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home over the holiday travel period from Saturday Dec. 21 to Wednesday, Jan. 1., according to AAA.
The travel projection surpasses the previous record set in 2019 by 64,000 travelers.
Nearly 90% of holiday travelers will be driving to their destinations, AAA said.
The Automobile Club of Southern California projects 9.9 million Southern California residents will take end-of-the-year trips, marking a 3.5% increase over last year.
The Federal Aviation Administration reports flight cancelations are trending lower than in previous years. The Department of Transportation has launched an interactive Customer Service Dashboard to provide travelers with customer service policies on cancelations and delays.
Nearly 40 million passengers are expected to be screened through TSA checkpoints over the holidays through Jan. 2.
