How your relationship affects your sleep

Relationship problems keeping you up at night? You don't know the half of it. A new study published in Social Personality and Psychological Science found that, for couples, how well you think your partner cares about you and understands you is linked to how well you sleep.

Humans need sleep; we'll die without it- and getting uninterrupted, restorative sleep is key.According to the researchers, in order to get that high quality shut eye, you have to feel safe and secure. The lead author explained, "Having responsive partners who would be available to protect and comfort us should things go wrong is the most effective way for us humans to reduce anxiety and tension."

Obviously the study didn't examine how well single people sleep, but we think we can guess- in perfect silence, with all the covers, taking up both sides of the bed. Which also makes for a pretty great night's sleep- and is definitely better than being in a relationship with an "unresponsive" partner. Choose your partner wisely- so you can sleep at night.
