Inmate who disappeared from LA County conservation camp apprehended

Authorities have apprehended an inmate who walked away from a Los Angeles County conservation camp earlier this week.

Jessie Meza, 38, was apprehended about 10:20 a.m. Thursday in Bakersfield, according to an update from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. He was reported missing from the camp in Acton Tuesday evening.

"He will be re-housed at a prison and his case will be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney for possible escape charges," according to the statement.

Meza was sentenced to 16 years in prison for assault with a firearm, with an enhancement for use of a firearm and possessing a firearm as a felon, and vandalism, officials said.
