The Los Angeles Police Department has released bodycam video of a controversial police shooting.
The shooting occurred around 8 a.m. on Nov. 19 on Central Avenue near 28th Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
A Newton Station sergeant was flagged down by someone who reported a man armed with a knife was walking northbound Central Avenue from 34th Street.
The sergeant located the armed man and called for backup, police said.
"Additional Newton Area officers responded and followed the suspect, later identified as Alex Flores Jr., to the area of 28th Street and Central Avenue,'' according to a police statement. "At some point, Flores ran towards one of the officers while armed with a knife, and an OIS occurred.''
Flores was pronounced dead at the scene. The county coroner's office determined the 34-year-old died from multiple gunshot wounds.
No officers were injured. A knife was recovered at the scene, police said.
A group of people angry about the shooting later scrawled anti-police graffiti outside the Newton Station following a protest, but no arrests were made.
