LOS ANGELES - Authorities Wednesday released body-camera video of an officer-involved shooting that occurred in August in the Hollenbeck area of Los Angeles. The suspect was killed in an exchange of gunfire with police officers.
The fatal shootout took place on August 18 around 11:25 p.m. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, uniformed officers patrolling in the area of E. Alhambra Avenue and N. Lombardy Boulevard in a marked LAPD SUV were approaching a red light, when surveillance video showed the suspect holding a gun, directing it at the LAPD vehicle. According to LAPD, the officer's vehicle was struck once by gunfire in the driver-side door. The suspect was later identified as 33-year-old Roberto Rene Gabriel.

As Gabriel ran north from the location and into an alley just north of E. Alhambra Ave, the officers made a U-Turn and then attempted to locate the suspect as they requested help and began to establish a perimeter.
Officers located the suspect on the north sidewalk of E. Alhambra Ave. just east of Belleglade Ave.
"When the officers exited their vehicle, Gabriel shot at them again and an officer-involved shooting occurred," said LAPD Captain Gisselle Espinoza.
After an exchange of gunfire, Gabriel ran off east on Alhambra Ave. where he confronted additional officers who were responding to the help call, resulting in a second officer-involved shooting.
The suspect was struck by gunfire and taken into custody. Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the suspect to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities were unable to confirm how many gunshots struck the suspect.
No officers were injured during and a handgun was recovered at the scene, according to LAPD.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office will review the evidence collected in the investigation and determine if the force used by the officers violated any criminal laws.
