(FOX 11) - Nelson Medrano, 21-years-old, and his 16-year-old friend, Anthony Valle, were murdered in a drive-by shooting on Saturday, September 10, 2011.
They were attending a barbeque at the home of friends near the corner of Juniper and East 97th Streets, across the street from the Jordan Downs Housing Development. Two other young men were wounded during the attack and two very young children narrowly escaped being killed.
Investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau say the shots were fired from a dark Honda, possibly a late 1990s model, with a stick shift and at least two Hispanic men inside.
The car was headed west on 97th Street toward Wilmington Avenue when the shots were fired. The family that lives in the house has been there for 30 years, without any kind of trouble, so investigators believe the shooting was a case of mistaken identity.
Anyone with any information, no matter how trivial it may seem to them, is asked to call Detective David Gunner at (323) 890-5500.
