Locals return home after a scary trip to Brussels during terror attacks

There was lots of emotion at Long Beach Airport after a group of women, who like to travel together, returned after a scary adventure.

They had been on a wonderful trip, they say. They enjoyed 3 great cities, but when they arrived in Brussels they're timing couldn't have been worse. They landed just as terrorists were attacking the airport. They saw a cart go by. Yvonne Maystrovich says somebody was yelling stop that boy he's got a gun. I assumed the person in the cart was an official. It wasn't. It was the terrorist."

Meanwhile, on a scale of one to ten - ten being scariest, Kathy Dutton says what was unfolding before their eyes was "a 10!" She says, "I was terrified. It was a very frightening experience"

Eight women were in the group. We spoke with five of them. They told us they sprung into action to set up cots for stranded travelers. Says Yvonne Maystrovich, "We built cots for them to sleep in. They expected 700 people and 1000 of us showed up… at this one facility." But, it was helping with the cots that kept their minds preoccupied. One of the women, Theresa Taylor says, "We stood outside the airport while all of the first responders came, ambulances were going in and out all the time… many of them. We knew something very serious was happening."

Those women say what happened was very scary, but they had another reason to be fearful They all live in the San Bernardino County Area. They worked with people who were injured and killed in the December 2nd attack in San Bernardino and now were at ground zero of another attack."

Judy Takano told me, "We are feeling just so grateful to be home. And, indeed they were!
