LA County school closures: LIST

LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. - Firefighters have been working around the clock as three fires erupted in Los Angeles County on Tuesday, fueled by destructive Santa Ana winds. 

UPDATED LIST FOR THURSDAY, JANUARY 9.

Thousands of families from Santa Clarita, the Pacific Palisades and the San Gabriel Valley remain under evacuation orders. Due to the life-threatening situation, several school districts have canceled classes. 

Also, officials confirmed Palisades High School suffered significant damage due to the Palisades Fire. 

"Despite the fire damage to our campus, the heart of our school is the people who comprise our community. My outreach to you today is to reassure you that our school is still standing, and we will reopen this semester, although possibly in a manner other than originally planned," Palisades Charter HS Principal Dr. Pamela Magee said in a letter sent to the school community.

List of school closures

• All LAUSD schools and schools in the Santa Monica Malibu School District will be closed Thursday, Jan. 9.
• All Pasadena Unified School District schools will be closed for the remainder of the week, through Jan. 10.
• All schools in the Beverly Hills Unified School District will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 9. Schools are expected to reopen on Jan. 10 pending further developments due to the fires.

The Department of Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles also announced the closure of dozens of Catholic schools in the region on Thursday, Jan. 9, including:

During an update on Wednesday morning, Los Angeles Unified Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho said in addition to the wildfire conditions, poor air quality in the area prompted additional school closures for schools on the eastern edge of the district.
