Malibu man meets firefighters who saved his home
It was a touching moment when a Pacific Palisades homeowner met the firefighters who saved his house.
MALIBU, Calif. - What started out as a heartfelt letter led to an emotional reunion when a Malibu man was able to meet the firefighters who saved his home from the Palisades Fire.
A ceremony was held this week to honor the El Segundo firefighters and police officers who responded to January's fires that devastated residents across Los Angeles County. In attendance was Dr. Anthony Nesburn who made the drive to the South Bay to thank Engine 31 C Platoon.
Not only did the firefighters save his home, they also wrote him a touching letter that they left in Dr. Nesburn’s mailbox.
"The house to the right of you was completely on fire and the burning fence between the houses was about to catch your house on fire," he read. "We kept the fire from that door."
Nesburn was shocked by the gesture.
"That was one of our prouder moments being on the incident," El Segundo City firefighter Matthew Goodenough said. "There’s many houses we saved but that one in particular…putting up a pink ribbon was an indication of a save."
Nesburn’s side door is charred, but it’s otherwise intact. However, many of his neighbors’ homes could not be saved.

"In the 20 years that I’ve been in the fire service, the winds were unbelievable. We already had an uphill battle just with the winds alone," explained Bryan Partlow, a firefighter for the El Segundo Fire Department.
Nesburn believes his late wife was looking out for him, and he knows the firefighters were as well.
