Man arrested on suspicion of murder, DUI after crash kills CHP officer in Lake Elsinore

(FOX 11) - A Riverside County man was arrested on suspicion of murder and driving under the influence in the death of a motorcycle officer with the California Highway Patrol, officials said Sunday.

The driver is 36-year-old Michael Callahan.

53-year-old Sergeant Steve Licon was conducting a traffic stop on the 15 Freeway Saturday when a driver crossed over the right shoulder crashing into Licon and the car he pulled over.

Sergeant Licon was a 27 year veteran of the California Highway Patrol.

His body was taken to the coroner's office Saturday night in a slow and somber procession.

Officer Licon is survived by his wife and two daughters.
