Mormon church speaks out on former 'Mrs. Orange County' child porn case

(FOX 11) - Meghan Alt appeared in court for her arraignment Friday. The 25-year-old didn't have much to say except to have her public defender ask for a continuance in the case.

The charges against her involve production and distribution of child pornography involving a 4-year-old family member.

The Orange County DA's Office has asked for public help suggesting Alt had access to children because she volunteered to work in children's programs at two Mormon churches in Orange County.

However, the church says she had no such access.

In its first statement on the criminal case the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Eric Hawkins told FOX 11 News:

"The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has zero tolerance for abuse of any kind, including child pornography. This individual has not at any time been given a position (volunteer assignment) to work with children. The Church is supportive of the efforts of law enforcement to investigate this matter. Anyone who abuses a child is rightfully subject to both criminal prosecution and formal Church sanction, including loss of their membership."
