Multiple people injured, 3 dead in South L.A. area shootings

Six people were injured Wednesday night in two separate shooting in the South Los Angeles area resulting in two deaths, authorities said.

The first shooting happened in the area of W. 117th Street and Berendo Avenue in West Athens shortly before 8 p.m. Authorities who responded to the scene found three people shot. One adult male was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department.

A teenage boy and another man were rushed to the hospital where the teen succumbed to his injuries, authorities said.

Berendo Avenue and 117th Street were closed and the public was being asked to avoid the area.

The second shooting occurred in the area of 105th Street and Budlong Avenue in Westmont at about 8:15 p.m.

Two women were rushed to the hospital to be treated for injuries while a third was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.

No suspect description was immediately known for either shooting incidents and no arrests have been made. Authorities said the two cases are not related.

Budlong Avenue was closed between 104th Street and 105th Street. The Sheriff's Department asked the public to avoid the area.
