Mureau Fire: Brush fire erupts in Calabasas near the 101 Freeway
CALABASAS, Calif. - A brush fire broke out in Calabasas Wednesday morning near the 101 Freeway and Mureau Road prompting evacuations.
The fire was called the “Mureau Fire” and had burned 10 acres before firefighters were able to stop forward progress.
Evacuations were underway for residents at the Mountain View Estates in unincorporated Los Angeles County, according to the City of Calabasas.
Authorities issued road closures due to the fire, including Calabasas Road to Parkway Calabasas, and Mureau Road between Las Virgenes and Round Meadow. It was unclear when the roads would reopen.
Pepperdine University closed its Calabasas campus due to the fire, encouraging staff members to work from home for the rest of the day. All other campuses remained open and classes were in session as regularly scheduled.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
