Officer-involved shooting in Azusa leaves suspect dead
(FOX 11/CNS) - An officer-involved shooting in Azusa left an armed suspect dead, authorities said.
Officers sent to Irwindale and McKinley avenues about 12:40 a.m. on a report of a possible burglary encountered an armed man who began to fight with them, and they fired at the suspect, according to Lt. Robert Landeros of the Azusa Police Department.
The man managed to run away from the officers, who set up a containment in the area and called for a SWAT team to help search for the suspect, Landeros said.
The suspect was found dead a short time later in the area, according to the sheriff's department, which was assisting Azusa police in the investigation.
According to the coroner's office, the man was in his 50s. Authorities withheld his name, pending notification of his relatives.
