Officer-involved shooting in Westlake neighborhood, man arrested
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (FOX 11/CNS) - A man is under arrest Tuesday following an officer-involved shooting near MacArthur Park in the Westlake district of Los Angeles.
Officers assigned to the Metropolitan Division were conducting a crime suppression patrol in the area of Ocean View Avenue and Lake Street around 11:30 p.m. Monday and they stopped a man on a bicycle, who they said pulled a gun on them, prompting at least one officer to open fire, according to a statement from the Los Angeles Police Department.
The suspect was not struck by gunfire and fled on foot and was taken into custody a short distance away on Third Street, the statement said.
No officers were injured and a gun was recovered at the scene.
"Fortunately, the officers were wearing body-worn video, so the details of what led up to the investigation will also be reviewed,'' LAPD Lt. Chris Ramirez said.
The man was taken to a hospital complaining of pain, police said.
