Officer-involved shooting leaves murder suspect dead, FBI agent wounded
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (FOX 11/CNS) - An officer-involved shooting in South Los Angeles Tuesday left a murder suspect dead and an FBI agent wounded, authorities said.
The shooting was in the indoor parking lot of the Central Inn Motel on the corner of Central and 41st. Police were moving in on an elderly man with a firearm. The suspect believed to be in his 70's wanted for a recent murder and attempted murder.
Meghan Aguilar with LAPD says, "They were there with an agent from the FBI." That's because a trained detail that looks for fugitives routinely has an FBI agent attached. Aguilar says, Preliminarily investigators believe "... that as the agent and officers approached the hotel they were fired upon by the suspect."
That's when there was a shooting involving officers, the FBI agent and the suspect. The agent was wounded. He was taken to a local hospital. It's believed he'll be okay. The suspect was killed at the scene. Reaction from neighbors ranged from words like "I'm shocked" to "It's sad... really sad."
This is the end of a search that's gone on since another shooting about a mile from here last week. SkyFOX was over it Tuesday the 31st. Police say that older man who they were searching for allegedly shot two men, killing one and injuring another after a family dispute.
As the days ticked on the search continued until the officer involved shooting at 41st and Central in which that elderly man died.
Says Aguilar, "The bottom line is, this is a murder suspect and he didn't want to go to jail. He knew our officers were here to today to arrest him and he chose to have it end this way."
