One dead, two critically injured after car flips, crashes into Simi Valley home

A woman was killed and two others were critically injured Tuesday morning when a vehicle flipped and crashed into a Simi Valley home.

The dark-colored Nissan was reportedly attempting to make a right turn on Morley Street, when the driver missed the turn, crashing onto the lawn of a home near the intersection of Morley and Sycamore Drive around 1:30 a.m. The vehicle then struck the residence, flipping over.

Authorities said that the two-seater vehicle had three occupants at the time of the crash.

A woman trapped inside the vehicle was declared dead at the scene, according to officials with the Ventura County Fire Department. Her identity has not yet been released.

The two additional people in the vehicle were transported to an area hospital, both with critical injuries.

Inside the home, people were sleeping at the time of the crash, but no one inside the residence was injured, authorities said.

“The investigators believe at this point that speed appears to be a factor in the collision,” Simi Valley Police Commander Steve Shorts.

Building and safety inspectors were also called out to inspect the home's structural integrity. They did find the damage severe enough to yellow tag the home, meaning the structure is currently not safe to live in.

Investigators are now searching for any surveillance video in the area that may have captured the crash.

The investigation into the crash was ongoing.
