One person dead in fiery crash on 101 Freeway in Hollywood
HOLLYWOOD (FOX 11 / CNS) - One person was killed Monday when a car that had been involved in a hit-and-run struck a concrete barrier on the Hollywood (101) Freeway in East Hollywood and burst into flames, authorities said.
The crash was reported at 2:05 a.m. on the northbound Hollywood Freeway just north of Santa Monica Boulevard, California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball said.
The driver was reported out of the burning vehicle and sitting on the dirt on the right shoulder while a person was trapped inside, the CHP said. The white car reportedly struck another vehicle and its driver fled, Kimball said. The victim of that hit-and-run was following the suspect's vehicle and watched the crash occur, he said.
A SigAlert was issued at 2:35 a.m. shutting down all lanes of the northbound Hollywood Freeway at the crash scene and taking traffic off at Santa Monica Boulevard. The fast lane was reopened at 2:54 a.m., Kimball said. The number 2 lane was reopened at 5:18 a.m.
