CHP: Alleged bus shooter arrested in Los Angeles

CHP announced that the suspected Foothills Transit shooter from the June 17 incident has been arrested.

A woman was rushed to the hospital and a man was arrested after a shooting broke out inside a moving bus near Baldwin Park.

The shooting was reported around 6 p.m. Monday, June 17, after authorities said a fight broke out between two passengers on a Foothill Transit bus as it was heading westbound on the 10 Freeway near the Puente Avenue exit.

The altercation led to one of the two men pulling out a gun and firing several rounds at the other, according to investigators with California Highway Patrol. The alleged gunman was later identified as 32-year-old Juan Mario Trejo, of West Covina.

"We have no indication that they knew each other. It just so happened that an altercation occurred. The bus driver from what we understand did everything that he is trained to do by trying to diffuse the situation and mitigate it as best as possible," said CHP Sgt. Saul Gomez.

Baldwin Park bus shooting under investigation

An argument took a violent turn on a transit bus that was traveling on the 10 Freeway.

An innocent bystander – described as a woman in her 50s, was rushed to the hospital after being shot. The woman has since been released from the hospital, CHP said on Tuesday.

CHP said Trejo took off from the bus on foot as the driver pulled over off the 10 Freeway. On Tuesday, CHP announced Trejo has since been arrested.

Law enforcement from surrounding agencies were seen assisting the CHP in searching the area for a suspect.

"We're working with Foothill Transit to acquire more surveillance footage and photographs of the actual altercation itself, so we can get a better description of our suspect," said CHP Sgt. Saul Gomez.  "The California Highway Patrol is working diligently to ensure that we capture this guy and bring them to justice."
