MALIBU, Calif. - A section of Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu fully reopened Monday after a days-long closure due to a mudslide after an atmospheric river struck Southern California.
The roadblock also led to some temporary school closures within the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. The issues also prompted Pepperdine University to cancel all in-person classes Wednesday at its Malibu campus.
On Wednesday morning, Caltrans District 7 officials posted on social media that PCH was closed in both directions between Corral Canyon and Latigo Canyon roads.
During Thursday morning’s commute, two southbound lanes and a single northbound lane reopened providing relief for drivers in the area.

Malibu Canyon Road was also closed in both directions at Piuma Road due to a large mudslide that covered the entire roadway. The area has also since reopened.
