Barricade situation underway in Malibu

Police were at the scene of a barricade situation on Malibu, causing lane closures on PCH.

A man is in custody following an hours-long standoff in Malibu

The standoff began around 5 a.m. in the Point Dume area near Zuma Beach.

An official with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said an assault with a deadly weapon suspect was barricaded inside a vehicle. 

The department said they noticed a van, without any license plates, parked illegally on PCH. When they attempted to talk to the driver, he pulled out a fire extinguisher and sprayed the deputies.

Suspect in custody after Malibu standoff

An hours-long standoff closed PCH during the early morning commute. The suspect was taken into custody around 9 a.m.

They tried to take him out of the vehicle, but he refused. 

A SWAT team was then called in. He was eventually taken into custody around 9 a.m.

Pacific Coast Highway was closed between Heathercliff Road and Bush Drive. Drivers were asked to avoid the area and take other routes. PCH has since reopened.
