Pedestrian dies after being hit by sheriff’s department bus

An L.A. County Sheriff's Department transport bus struck and killed a pedestrian Monday in Arleta, authorities said.

The collision happened around 3:20 a.m along the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway at Osborne Street.

Officers were called to look into a report that a man had been hit by the bus in the #4 lane, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Peter Nicholson.

The pedestrian died from injuries sustained in the collision, Nicholson said.

The bus didn't have any prisoners on it at the time, he said.

The cause of the collision is under investigation, and the condition of the bus driver was unclear.

A SIG alert was issued and the road was reopened shortly before 8 a.m.
