Pies for Justice online charity bake sale Friday

An Echo Park pie shop was one of 50 restaurants that participated in a special online charity pie sale fundraiser held in honor of Juneteenth. The fundraiser sold out of sweet tweets within minutes.

The owner of Valerie Echo Park said it was important to be a part of “Pies for Justice.”

“This is a charity fundraiser and it was organized by an organization called ‘And Gather For Good’ which is really amazing,” owner Valerie Gordan said.

She added that 50 bakeries and shifts came together to bake pies with all proceeds going to Black Lives Matter Los Angeles and The Gathering for Justice.

In addition, many local farmers donated fruit to the cause.

“People really came together for this cause and it’s so important to draw attention [to it],” she said.

The sale launched at 9 a.m. and was sold out by 9:40 a.m.

“If we are sold out, just make a donation to one of the causes because they need the money and we have to keep this going,”  Gordan said.
