Plane crashes in Goleta near 101 Freeway; 2 seriously hurt
GOLETA, Calif. - A small plane crashed off a Goleta freeway on Wednesday afternoon, aviation officials said.
The crash was first reported around 2:20 p.m. Officials with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office said the small plane came crashing down near the freeway somewhere between Los Carneros and Storke roads.
Photos shared by the Sheriff's Office showed the fiery crash site, with a large area of grass burned by the wreckage.
Deputies said two people were on board the plane when it crashed. Fire officials said they were a 29-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman and they were taken to the hospital by paramedics with serious injuries.
It wasn't immediately clear what caused the plane to crash, but officials are asking the public to avoid the area while crews respond to the scene.
