Pole Fire forces evacuations in Apple Valley

Several Apple Valley residents have been forced to evacuate after the Pole Fire broke out, burning more than 300 acres.

A brush fire broke out in San Bernardino County Tuesday, briefly forcing evacuations, fire authorities said.

The Pole Fire in the Apple Valley area started around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Cal Fire, near Roundup Way and Central Road. The fire was burning at a moderate rate and within the initial hours of the fire, the fire grew to approximately 350 acres.

By Friday, the fire had been 70% contained.

The flames briefly threatened multiple structures in the area, according to the Apple Valley Fire Protection District. Several buildings were damaged, the District said. However, no injuries were reported.

Southern California Edison also worked to de-energize power poles in the area to help mitigate the spread of the fire.

Evacuations have were ordered for the area south of Roundup Way on Tuesday, but were lifted by Thursday.
