Police: Cal State Long Beach student in custody following lockdown due to 'credible threat'

Everyone at California State University Long Beach was ordered to shelter in place immediately Monday afternoon due to a "credible threat," that came from a female student, police said.

Cal State Long Beach police tweeted an alert Monday at 3:50 p.m. requesting everyone at the school campus to move indoors and shelter in place, and anyone not on campus to stay away from the area. They did not specify what that "credible threat" was.

At 4:23 p.m., CSULB police lifted all shelter-in-place orders and said they took one suspect into custody without incident.

"There is no ongoing threat and the campus is open for normal operations," tweeted CSULB police.

The suspect has not been identified but Campus Police Chief Fernando Solorzano said the suspect is a female student who had an appointment at the CSULB Student Success Center. It's unclear if she ever made the appointment. Her age was not immediately known.

Solorzano said that at about 2:10 p.m., authorities received an email that threatened acts of violence and deemed it credible. By 3:40 p.m., a campus-wide alert to shelter in place was sent out.

No further information was immediately available. The investigation is ongoing.
