LA police chase suspect narrowly misses 4 cars in North Hollywood, refuses to get out of car for hour

A car chase suspect is in custody – but not before running over four cars in a busy Los Angeles intersection and then refusing to get out of the car for more than an hour in North Hollywood.

The chase involving the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department began around 3 p.m. in the Sunland area.

The suspect – initially wanted for possible DUI – in a black four-door sedan crashed into multiple cars, then proceeded to drive on the wrong side of the road, officials said.

At one point in the chase, the driver nearly crashed into four cars near Vineland Avenue and Camarillo Street. Instead of causing a five-car pileup, the suspect narrowly grazed by one of the cars before getting away from the busy North Hollywood intersection.

The driver then crashed into two patrol cars before continuing to flee from authorities.

The pursuit ended in the Sunland/North Hollywood area after the driver came to a stop at Vineland Avenue and Hortense Street.

The airbags of the pursuit suspect's vehicle were deployed after the driver crash. It took the suspect until a little after 4:45 p.m. before authorities tackled the suspect.
