LOS ANGELES (CNS / FOX 11) - Police released surveillance footage Wednesday in hopes of generating tips that lead to three suspects who attacked and fatally stabbed a 23-year-old in the Westlake district of Los Angeles.
"Anybody should be able to walk anywhere in L.A., so there is no wrong place, wrong time,'' LAPD Capt. Jeff Nolte said. "What we have here is multiple suspects attacking one single victim.''
Oscar Lazo was involved in a fight with three male suspects about 10 p.m. last June 23 in the area of Rockwood Street and Union Avenue and died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. No weapon was recovered.
Surveillance video released by police shows Lazo walking out of a liquor store and being attacked by the trio, who wind up chasing him and ultimately beating and stabbing him with a wooden object.
"We need the community to come forward because this could be anybody's brother, son or daughter,'' Nolte said.
The Los Angeles City Council is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the attackers.
"I also hope that anyone who's watching who has a conscience who knows something about what happened can turn in that information of what they know, which could help bring a measure of peace to the family,'' Councilman Mitch O'Farrell said.
Anyone with information that could assist investigators was asked to call Rampart homicide Detectives Ray Martinez or Jesse Audelo at (213) 484-3650. Anonymous tips can be supplied through Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS or online at http://lacrimestoppers.org.
