SAN BERNARDINO, CA (FOX 11) - It was a school shooting police say employees never saw coming, and now there's video some say supports that statement.
On Wednesday, police released a recording of the moments right before a killer walked onto North Park Elementary in San Bernardino last month and was cleared to walk through.
It shows Cedric Anderson attempting to walk through the school's main gate. It was locked.
He swings open the door to the front office instead and walks in. He then appears to exchange words with a school employee, reaches down for a pen and presumably signs in.
Moments later, he opens a door leading into a hallway. Police say he walked into his estranged wife, Karen Smith's classroom, and killed her, her special ed student Jonathan Martinez, and himself.
Exactly one month later, emotions were still raw.
Neighbor Cassandra Cervantes wishes employees had asked Anderson more questions before allowing him in.
"Even if he said I need to drop something off to him. They could have called her and said by the way I have somebody here. Come pick this up when you have the chance," said Cervantes.
Some parents we spoke to off-camera said the video gave them confirmation school officials shouldn't be the ones to blame. San Bernardino Police Lt. Mike Madden agreed.
"From repeatedly viewing the video, I personally observe that the suspect was not giving any overt signs of symptoms of any kind of indication that the heinous act which he was about to perpetrate against the school and students and his wife at that time," said Madden.
Since the shooting, North Park made some serious security changes. Cervantes noticed them when she enrolled her son into the school two weeks ago
"You can't even enter the school office without being buzzed in," said Cervantes.
Guests also now have to be pre-approved before entering. Cervantes says these steps make her feel better about letting her son attend.
"We live in a world where you don't know what's going to happen so you just have to take it day by day," says Cervantes.
