Child killed, woman hurt in Pomona crash
Officials said a child was killed and a woman was hurt as they were crossing an intersection in Pomona.
POMONA, Calif. - A memorial has been placed at the Pomona intersection where a child was killed and a woman was seriously injured Tuesday night.
Officers from the Pomona Police Department responded to the crash site at Towne and Lexington avenues just after 8 p.m. Responding officers then discovered two pedestrians lying in the roadway along Towne Ave.
Investigators said a woman and child were both struck while crossing the intersection but haven’t specified if any traffic laws were violated.

6-year-old Pomona girl killed in crash
Guadalupe Alvarez Salgado, 6, was killed while she was crossing the street with her sister in Pomona. A memorial has been set up at the intersection where the crash happened.
The child was identified as 6-year-old Guadalupe Alvarez Salgado. The woman with her was her 19-year-old sister Mireya Alvarez. According to family and friends, the sisters were walking with their mother, returning home from a store, when the siblings were struck by a silver Honda Accord heading north on Towne. The siblings were apparently walking ahead of their mother in the intersection when they were struck.
First responders tried to resuscitate the child before she was pronounced dead by Los Angeles County Fire paramedics. The sister was treated on the scene and transported to a local hospital for serious injuries.

Authorities said the driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and cooperated with the police investigation.

The department's Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the fatal crash.
