LOS ANGELES (FOX 11 / CNS) - Authorities circulated a composite drawing of a suspect being sought in the long-unsolved shooting death of a father of two whose body was found in his Hacienda Heights residence 12 1/2 years ago.
Edward Berber, 27, was found dead by his mother on Dec. 6, 2005, in his bed at his home in the 1800 block of Charlemonte Avenue.
"She had not heard from him for a few days,'' said sheriff's Deputy Wally Bracks. "To her dismay, she found her son shot to death.''
Sheriff Jim McDonnell displayed the composite drawing at a news conference at the Hall of Justice in downtown Los Angeles.
"We are here today because we believe we can show you the face of a killer, and that you the public can bring peace and justice to the family of Edward Berber,'' McDonnell said. "Mr. Berber was only 27 years old at the time he was killed. He left behind two young children, who at the time of his death were 8 years old and 3 years old when they lost their dad.''
The Board of Supervisors approved a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer.
"Nearly 13 years after Edward Berber was murdered, we have a chance to solve this case and finally bring justice to Edward's family,'' Supervisor Janice Hahn said, urging anyone who recognized the face to "do the right thing'' and call sheriff's Sgt. Robert Martindale at (323) 890-5500 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
A motive for the crime hasn't been established.
Berber's sister, Alejandra Johnson, described him as "a family man that loved his children.''
"My brother had goals,'' she said. "He worked all his life to be accomplished, and (he was) a professional, with a master's degree from Notre Dame, who was about to take his CPA test. He had dreams and goals, not just for him, but for his family.''
