Pursuit of assault suspect in Seal Beach ends in crash, police shooting
ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. - A man accused of assault was in police custody Friday following a high-speed pursuit, crash and police shooting in Orange County overnight, officials said.
Around 12:40 a.m., police in Seal Beach were in pursuit of a white Chevrolet Suburban on the westbound lanes of the 22 Freeway. The SUV was driven by a man allegedly involved with the assault of a peace officer.
According to authorities, the suspect allegedly sped off on Westminster Boulevard and at one point, he was reportedly driving the wrong way on the 405 Freeway.
"The vehicle entered SR-22 westbound and was involved in a traffic collision in the area of Valley View Street," the CHP statement said.
The suspect drove away from the scene and ended up outside the Alamitos Animal Hospital in Westminster along Garden Grove Blvd. where he apparently crashed, exited his vehicle, and ran from authorities.
"Officers attempted to take the driver into custody when an officer-involved shooting occurred," the CHP reported. "The vehicle continued off of the freeway where a second traffic collision occurred in the area of Garden Grove Boulevard, west of Goldenwest Street, where the driver was subsequently taken into custody without incident."
