Rollover crash victim says man robbed her
A woman is warning others about a callous robber who took advantage of her when she was traumatized and helpless from an accident on Hwy. 114 in Irving.
Kimberly Smith was cut off by another car on Sunday morning, causing her to drive off the road and her vehicle to flip.
Smith had just freed herself and gotten out of her car when a man stopped. He told her he'd found her purse.
While Smith looked for her cell phone, the man slipped away in a faded red pickup truck.
"Next thing I know, he's gone and my wallet is missing," said Smith. "…He must be in a hard situation to feel the need to steal from someone that has just gone through a traumatic experience, who could have nearly died or suffered serious injuries."
Smith works in the jail for a North Texas police department. Her father, Steve, is a retired Dallas and Addison police officer.
"To take advantage of it, to steal from her and then just to leave her there by herself, you wouldn't want to wish that on anybody," said Steve.
After the man left, Kimberly Smith says dozens of cars drove by, each one taking her last bit of hope.
"People were slowing down, taking pictures," she said. "'Hey, can you call 911? Hey, please help.' Men took off driving. One person stopped."
The man who finally stopped to help was from out of state.
Kimberly Smith says she hopes to be able to find him and thank him.
Irving police don't have a detailed description of the other man who took Kimberly's wallet.
They think someone will recognize the faded red pickup truck and will call police.
