Winnetka homeowner stabs intruder

After a man broke into a Winnetka home, the homeowner went after him and stabbed him.

A San Fernando Valley homeowner took matters into his own hands after someone broke into his house.

Security footage shows someone walking around the Winnetka neighborhood on Elkwood Street and Comanche Avenue, located off Winnetka Avenue around 4 a.m. Friday. Investigators said the homeowner's daughter was the first to confront the suspect.

A short time later, her father and the suspect got into a fight. As things continued to escalate, officials said the homeowner stabbed the suspect in the abdomen. The suspect tries to flee, leaving a trail of blood on the sidewalk and collapses in front of a house.

He was taken to the hospital and his condition was unknown.

SFV homeowner stabs intruder

Officials said a homeowner stabbed someone who broke into his Winnetka home.

When officers with the Los Angeles Police Department arrived at the home, they found the suspect.

A neighbor also told officers the suspect tried to break into her home.

SUGGESTED COVERAGE:

"I woke up and heard a big bang. I thought something exploded in our house, so I checked the cameras and saw someone walking around the backyard and he jumped over the fence," the neighbor explained.

Just a couple of miles away and a day earlier, a couple at a condo in Canoga Park encountered a prowler. Security video shows a man walking around the complex. When he got into the couple's home, the husband scared him off.

LAPD told FOX 11 that the initial call to the location was for two men breaking into a car. Police are not connecting the home invasion in Canoga Park with the one in Winnetka.
