Suspected DUI driver who killed San Jose community officer released on bail

San Jose leaders blasted a judge's decision to release on bail a suspected drunk driver accused of killing a community service officer and injuring another.

In photos shared by the San Jose Police Department, the left rear side of one of the police vehicles had a mangled tire, scratches and dents. One of the involved officers appeared to have scuffed pants following the collision.

It's unclear if the suspected DUI driver, whom police did not identify, suffered any injuries. He was booked into jail.

"This holiday season, please remember that drunk or "buzzed" driving is never okay. Choose safety this holiday season, designate a sober driver, use ride-share services, or stay the night. Let’s keep everyone safe so that they can spend this holiday season with loved ones," San Jose police officials said.
