Death investigation underway in Santa Clarita

A man's death was under investigation in Santa Clarita Monday.

Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department were investigating after a 12-year-old boy's body was found in Santa Clarita Monday. 

Officers were called to the area near Sand Canyon and Placerita Canyon roads around 6:30 a.m. Arriving officers discovered the boy suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

On Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office identified the person as 12-year-old Willians Ayala.

Weeks after Ayala's death, it was revealed that the 12-year-old and another child were involved in an accidental shooting. While LA County officials did not specify who was responsible for the gun accidentally going off or how the two kids got a hold of the gun.
