Search called off for missing swimmer in Manhattan Beach
MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. - Rescue crews wrapped up their efforts following a search for a missing swimmer in Manhattan Beach on Thursday.
The incident was reported around 10:40 a.m. in the 3400 block of The Strand after a paddleboarder informed a lifeguard that they saw a swimmer dive under a wave and never resurfaced, officials said.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s helicopters along with county lifeguards responded to the scene.
Manhattan Beach police also patrolled the area.
Officials say strong rip currents continue to be a factor, which makes for difficult conditions.
Authorities say they saturated the zone and there were no outstanding missing persons in the immediate area.
Beach units and Baywatch remain at the scene.
The search comes after former WWE star Shad Gaspar was lost at sea Sunday. His body washed ashore in Venice Beach early Wednesday morning.
