Crews battle wind-driven Sheep Fire
The Sheep Fire continues to spread in the Wrightwood area of San Bernardino County, but fortunate winds have allowed crews to further contain the blaze Monday.
WRIGHTWOOD, Calif. - After more than a week, crews have fully contained the Sheep Fire north of Wrightwood in San Bernardino County, according to the county fire department.
The fire broke out back on June 12, around 6:30 p.m. at Sheep Creek in the Angeles National Forest, north of Wrightwood. By Sunday, crews had fully contained the blaze after it had burned approximately 865 acres. The blaze started as a vegetation fire.

The Sheep Fire In San Bernardino County has burned more than 750 acres as of Sunday afternoon.

The Sheep fire spread quickly over its first weekend thanks to strong winds, forcing evacuations in several neighborhoods for several days, and road closures throughout the area. But a shift in winds helped firefighters contain the fire, and by Tuesday, June 15, the evacuation orders had been lifted.
Firefighters will continue to patrol the area over the next few days to clean up and put out hotspots.
The San Bernardino County Fire Department worked in conjunction with fire crews from the Angeles National Forest and Cal Fire's San Bernardino Unit. Investigators have yet to determine what caused the fire.
