Teen shot outside Granada Hills Ralphs; police searching for suspect
LOS ANGELES - Police are still searching for a suspect after a teenage boy was shot outside a Ralphs store in Granada Hills Thursday night.
The Los Angeles Police Department and LAUSD police both responded to a call from the grocery store just off Zelzah Avenue near Kingsbury Street around 9 p.m. Thursday. Officers said that a 17-year-old boy was shot. Paramedics brought the teen to the hospital in stable condition.
The shooting happened just blocks from Granada Hills Charter High School, which was hosting a varsity football game against Benjamin Franklin High School at the time.
While it was not immediately clear whether the shooting had anything to do with the nearby game, both schools responded to the shooting. In a message to the school Friday, Franklin High confirmed that the injured teen was not a student at the school.
In a statement Friday, GHC said "We are grateful to LAPD and LA School Police, as well as GHC staff, for their rapid response and extensive support provided in this on-campus incident. We are committed to working with local law enforcement and first responders in this ongoing investigation. For the privacy of our community, we are unable to comment regarding any minor, students from GHC or other schools." The school also said it "will be increasing, as necessary, our security presence at future events and around campus to protect the GHC community."
Police did not provide any information about a potential suspect, and did not say what might have led to the shooting.
